Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)’s Mass protest calling for the resignation of President Dr. Waheed and to hold early presidential elections at Lonuziyaaraih Kolhu. Large numbers of people have gathered at the protest. 17th February 2012.

“Calling for moderate Islam”
Supporters and members of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) gathers at the Male’ Artificial Beach on today 16:00hrs to 17:30hrs, for what they claim to be a protest “calling for moderate Islam”.
May Day Rally 2007
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) today held a rally to protest the lack of national labour laws. Over thousands workers in Male’ joined hundreds of Party members and supporters to march from the South West harbour area to the artificial beach on the eastern shore of Male’.
The Maldives does not have trade unions and labour laws that guarantee minimum wages, overtime, cost of living allowances, and limits on working hours.
The MDP held the first May Day rally ever marked in the history of Maldives last year. The rally ended with jubilation for thousands of people who gathered and marched on the streets. Part of the success of the rally can be attributed to the sheer number of people it attracted and due to the fact that it came to an end without violence or confrontations with the police.
May Day Rally 2006
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) organized rally to celebrate International workers day for the 1st time in Maldives. Some labors from custom area joined the rally wearing red t-shirts and waving national flag. Many of the people in the crowd called to join International labour Organization (ILO) and to end the dictatorship.
The crowd tries to toward Republican Square. But Police blocked the way and the rally ended peacefully.
Rally for Women’s Rights
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally held to call for rights of women on 30th March 2006. Participants walked on Male streets and chanted to “stop abusing women”, “stop arresting women” and to “release Jenny, Areesha and Shiuna.”
The rally started from Majeedhimagu maafannu area and it ended in artificial beach area.
